Funding Matters

If your invention was supported by a grant, sponsored research agreement, federal award, internal or external funding, please include that funding information in your disclosure. Even if you are unsure whether it directly applies to the invention. This helps Technology Transfer identify any sponsor reporting obligations early.

Yes. USF employees are required to disclose inventions and other works to USF Technology Transfer under USF Policy 0-300.

Yes. You can submit a disclosure before your research is complete. USF Technology Transfer encourages researchers to contact our office early in the discovery process so we can help identify opportunities to protect your IP.

What happens after I submit a disclosure?

After submitting a disclosure, the USF Technology Transfer team reviews the invention to evaluate its intellectual property and commercial potential. The team then work with you to determine the appropriate path forward, which may include patent protection, licensing, or other commercialization opportunities.
