Experiential Learning
Research-to-Practice Learning
Students learn to apply evidence-based practices through coursework, clinical experiences, and faculty-mentored projects, helping them bridge theory and practice while developing problem-solving and leadership skills.
Leadership and Advocacy Development
Graduate students often engage in projects that strengthen leadership, coaching, professional development, and advocacy skills that prepare them for expanded professional roles within schools, districts, and community organizations.
Professional Certifications and Credentials
Several of our programs prepare students for state certification, endorsements, or specialized credentials that directly support workforce readiness in high-need areas such as special education, literacy, English language learning, and related educational fields.
Clinical and Field Experiences
Many of our undergraduate and graduate students engage in extensive field-based experiences in schools, classrooms, community organizations, and educational settings throughout their programs, culminating in internships, practica, and student teaching experiences.
Community Partnerships
Our programs emphasize applied learning through partnerships with local school districts, literacy organizations, community agencies, and educational nonprofits. Students work alongside practicing professionals and gain experience addressing authentic educational challenges.
Family and Community Engagement
Many of our programs provide opportunities for students to work directly with families and communities, building communication, and collaborations in out of school contexts like community centers, libraries, zoos museums, and afterschool centers.

Practical Workplace Prep
Experiential Learning in Exercise Science and Kinesiology
The Exercise Science and Kinesiology (ESK) program is built around a simple but powerful philosophy: Students should not simply learn about exercise science—they should learn to practice it.

Experiential Learning in Teacher Preparation
Clinical experiences are embedded throughout many of our educator preparation programs. These experiences allow teacher candidates to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional confidence needed to positively impact learners from their first day in the classroom.
