The people behind the research

Triparna de Vreede
Director, Behavioral AI Lab · Assistant Professor of Information Systems
Muma College of Business · Bellini College of AI, Cybersecurity & Computing
tdevreede@usf.edu
De Vreede studies what most AI research overlooks: the invisible psychological consequences of working alongside intelligent machines. Her research reveals how high-performing AI teammates can paradoxically reduce human contribution, how AI assistance can simultaneously improve output while undermining long-term skill development, and how trust with AI follows patterns that defy conventional wisdom — where exceeding expectations can damage rather than strengthen the willingness to rely on an AI partner. Her conceptual contributions, including developmental bypass, the AI trust paradox, and social loafing in human-AI teams, provide vocabulary for dynamics that organizations experience but have not yet named.
