Florida Center for Community Design & Research
Founded in 1986 as an extension of the ÐÜèAVÃâ·Ñ’s School of Architecture
& Community Design (SACD) and a statewide research center, the Florida Center for
Community Design & Research (FCCDR) has worked with over 100 communities on more than
150 projects to improve the built environment and quality of life for Florida’s residents.
Through the work of its research faculty, students, and staff, the FCCDR at USF has
become a respected statewide resource for community design, urban architecture and
design, and applied research. Focused on public-interest design and community engagement,
the FCCDR works collaboratively with communities, public agencies, and organizations
throughout Florida to address complex challenges in the built environment. Through
interdisciplinary research and design assistance, the center develops innovative strategies
for human-centered development, resilient communities, revitalized business districts
and neighborhoods, and managed growth. The FCCDR’s work has helped communities translate
local needs and aspirations into actionable designs, planning strategies, and public
policies, while contributing to broader conversations about the future of Florida’s
cities, towns, and regions.
