Brittany Peters, DSW, LCSW, MCAP, QS, assistant professor of instruction in the School of Social Work, was recognized by the City of St. Petersburg for her contributions to mental health and wellness in the community.
In honor of National Wellness Month, the St. Petersburg City Council presented a proclamation recognizing Peters' clinical practice and commitment to expanding access to mental health services. Council Member Richie Floyd read the proclamation on behalf of the City Council and Mayor Kenneth T. Welch.
Peters' approach to wellness emphasizes the power of community connection beyond traditional clinical settings.

Brittany Peters speaks as she is recognized by the City of St. Petersburg.
"There is healing power in our community, in gathering around food, music, storytelling and one another," Peters told the City Council. "Healing does not always have to happen in a therapist's office."
Alongside her role educating future social workers at USF, Peters remains actively involved in behavioral health efforts throughout St. Petersburg. She serves on multiple boards and supports initiatives aimed at strengthening behavioral health systems and expanding access to mental health care.
Among those efforts is St. Pete HUBs, an initiative supported by American Rescue Plan Act funding that focuses on underserved ZIP codes and connects residents with free services, including therapy and assertive outreach.
The city's recognition during National Wellness Month highlights Peters' commitment to bringing education, clinical practice and community engagement together to improve mental and physical well-being across the community.
