“What is applied anthropology to you?â€

Applied Anthropology translates academic theory into practice. Applied anthropologists collaborate with communities to produce research that is relevant and helpful for creating positive change.

“How do your applied interests relate to your sub-field of anthropology?â€

Applied anthropologists who study homelessness and policy collaborate with unhoused individuals and local community organizations to conduct research that shifts public perceptions and informs effective and empathetic policy.

“How do you position yourself within applied anthropology?â€

I incorporate historical, political, and geographical contexts- as well as intersectional and feminist theory- to understand how policies surrounding homelessness are developed and impact the lives of the unhoused. I believe that unhoused, impoverished, and food insecure individuals should have active voice in policymaking.
